Bit by the Cooking Bug

Recently, I have been asked this question on several occasions, "Where do you have the time to make/bake this?" when I whip something up in the kitchen for sampling or a gift.

But that's exactly what I have now. Time. Quite an abundance of it. And I have taken the opportunity to hone my semi-existent cooking skills.

Last Friday, I took the opportunity to make Apple Betty because I had two apples in the fridge that had been sitting in there for some time. It's a no-crust kind of apple pie with a crumbly sweet topping, best eaten with a huge dollop of vanilla ice-cream on top. The next time I make this though, I would definitely reduce the amount of sugar. It was very sweet for me.

On Saturday, I made Oreo Truffles for both Danyaal's and Aisyah's birthday party. I forgot to take pictures though but there are a lot of pictures on the web if you google for it. The downside to truffles is that it needs to be kept chilled in the fridge until serving time. But other that, it was mostly a hit, especially with Haziq :).

On Sunday, because I tire of eating rice and noodles, I made us pizza for dinner using a simple recipe for pizza dough. The recipe was enough for me to make two 9" pizza: 1 seafood pizza and 1 black pepper seafood pizza. Definitely a recipe for keeps as it's so cheap, delicious and simple to make.

1)Knead the dough and let it rise for half hour.

2)Bake blind for 10 min.

3)Add toppings. Bake for another 15 min or when crust turns golden brown.

and Voila!

Of course, the downside to this new hobby is that I get stove burns and oven burns (I'm clumsy by nature) which will take time to heal.

But it's ok.

Time, I've got.
