Just A Little Harmless Maths

Do enlighten me on this one.

If you are calculating how much mileage a car can deliver in km/litres, can you calculate it if you know the following:

1) Original petrol left in car - don't know but it is slightly above E.
2) And considering (1), you pump petrol until full tank. Amount ~ 40 litres.
3) At the point of pumping, the thingy that calculates distance shows 1730.
4) When the petrol reaches E, you take a look at the distance thingy again ~ 2123.

So, can it be calculated?

On the subject of Maths, my teaching career is just looming in the near future. And the good thing is, I just discovered yesterday that my colleague Pauline used to teach English & Maths in secondary level too! So I'm gonna make a date with her to gather some 'tips & tricks' (as Irene & Kev) would call it. I'm really looking forward to it.

Take 2123 minus 1730 and divide the amount by 40l
That will give you an FC of 9.825km/l :-)

But how about the original petrol left in the car? Wasn't it use to travel small part of the total ditance travelled? But it's not included in the calculation.

Cos you meantioned the original is near "E" so we take it that it is empty and your tank holds 40 litres. Assuming that you have another 2 litres, then it adds up to 42 litres after pump which will also translate that yr meter may show more distance travelled.
I think cannot compute exactly lah... Unless you come to a situation where you dont have a single drop of petrol left and you probably be pushing the car halfway : p...Then you can really compute exact.

Next time you may reset yr meter to "0" after a full tank pump then no need to minus here and there. : )

Ok, got it. Thanks much!
